Nava Yousef

Product & UI/UX Designer

I came to product design through painting and urban studies. Painting taught me to look closely. Cities taught me to watch how people move, where they hesitate and what helps them find their way. Designing digital products turned out to be the same question at a different scale.

Since my MSc in Digital Design at the University of York, I've designed web, mobile and desktop products, from health and well-being apps to enterprise and industrial tools. I like starting where things are complicated: understanding what people really need and what the business needs, then shaping both into something calm and clear that a team can build.

I design for accessibility from the first sketch and I work closely with developers. In 2026 I was named Graduate of the Year at the Leeds Manufacturing Festival.

How I work

Every project is different, but most of mine follow this shape.

  1. Understand

I start with the people, the business goal and the hardest constraint. That can mean interviews, using the product myself, reading research or looking at what others already do. I write down what I'm assuming, so it can be checked rather than built on.

In shortThe problem that's actually worth solving.

  2. Shape

Before any screen, I map the flows and the structure, and decide what people need to see first and what can wait a click. This is where most of the complexity gets untangled.

In shortA clear plan the whole team can follow and question.

  3. Design

Rough layouts first, to agree on structure quickly. Then detailed screens built from reusable parts, with accessibility designed in from the start rather than checked at the end.

In shortFast agreement early, consistent screens later.

  4. Test and refine

I put the work in front of people early, even a small group, and change what doesn't work. Weekly reviews with the people who use or build the product catch problems while they're still small.

In shortProblems found while they're still cheap to fix.

  5. Build together

I stay with the work after handover. I work closely with developers, and I can build interfaces in code myself, so the details survive into the real product.

In shortA product that ships the way it was designed.

Outside work

I've been painting since I was seven.

Art, music and making things have been part of my life ever since, and that's what led me to urban design, and from there to digital products.

The thread through all of it is the same. I love how a well-made thing can change the way people feel. In design, that means helping someone feel at ease, trust what's in front of them, or helping a business do better because of it.

Away from work I still paint, take photos of compositions I notice on walks, go to the gym, and sit at the piano when I get the chance.
